The Capital City Flyers Club (CCF) originated in 1977.
It started after the Edmonton Radio Control Society lost their field near
Ellerslie on
Edmonton's south side.
While the society relocated to a field on the north side, other members found a
temporary field on the south side. This group formed an organization to support
the activities of people with a common interest in building and flying model
aircraft. They later joined forces with the helicopter group to find a better
flying site. Several of the founding members, in1980, elected to incorporate
this organization under the Societies Act asa non-profit organization. The Club
dedicates its regular activities to the "Sunday Flyer". Competition is limited
to a couple of fun flies per year. These activities are planned to integrate
with those of other clubs in the area.
The Club currently has an open
membership policy. Its members come from a variety of backgrounds, therefore
bringing a multitude of skills to the Club. The philosophy however, leans more
toward the powered modelling and flying for the shear joy of the activity.
Flying instruction is available for beginners. The Club extends a cordial
welcome to spectators.
We are a chartered member of the Model Aeronautics
Association of Canada (MAAC). The Capital City Flyers Club (CCF) is a radio
control flying club located on
Edmonton's south side. The Club caters to
sport flyers of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned veterans. Most
members fly airplanes, although gliders and helicopters are welcome. The Club is
very informal by nature. We hold one or two fun flies per year. Meetings are held
on the second Wednesday of Sept., Oct., Nov., March, April, May, and June.
Election of executive positions is held at the October meeting. The meetings are
usually low key. They offer a good opportunity to meet other members, to learn
more about the hobby, to discuss flying and building techniques.
